Our Commitment to Privacy
OpenClaw is designed with privacy as a core principle. Unlike cloud-based AI assistants, OpenClaw runs entirely on your own device. We don't operate servers that process your messages โ your data stays with you.
What Data OpenClaw Processes
On Your Device (Local)
- Messages: OpenClaw processes messages from your connected platforms locally on your computer
- Conversation History: Stored locally to maintain context for AI responses
- Configuration: Your settings, API keys, and preferences are stored locally
- Logs: Debug and error logs are stored locally for troubleshooting
Sent to AI Providers
When you send a message to OpenClaw, the message content is sent to your chosen AI provider (e.g., Anthropic for Claude, OpenAI for GPT-4) for processing. This is necessary for the AI to generate responses. Each AI provider has their own privacy policy governing how they handle this data.
What We Collect
Website (getclawdbot.com)
- Analytics: We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our website. This includes anonymized usage data like page views and session duration.
- Submissions: If you submit a use case or feature request, we collect the information you provide.
OpenClaw Software
The OpenClaw software itself does not send any data to our servers. We do not collect:
- Your messages or conversations
- Your contacts or phone numbers
- Your API keys or credentials
- Usage telemetry or analytics
Third-Party Services
OpenClaw integrates with third-party services that have their own privacy policies:
- AI Providers: Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and others process your messages according to their privacy policies
- Messaging Platforms: WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, etc. have their own data handling practices
- GitHub: Our source code is hosted on GitHub
We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you use with OpenClaw.
Data Security
Since OpenClaw runs locally on your device:
- Your data security depends on your own device's security
- We recommend keeping your operating system and OpenClaw updated
- Use strong passwords and enable device encryption
- Keep your AI API keys secure and never share them
Your Rights
Because your data is stored locally, you have complete control:
- Access: All your data is on your device
- Deletion: Delete OpenClaw and all associated data at any time
- Portability: Your data is in standard formats you can export
- Modification: Edit or clear conversation history as needed
Children's Privacy
OpenClaw is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date and, for significant changes, posting an announcement on our website or GitHub.
